Pippi Moves In! (Pippi Flytarr in Och Andra Serier) is a comic-book style story that highlights select stories of Pippi. Most of the stories come from the original Pippi Longstocking, but some are from the other Pippi novels.
This book is one I stumbled upon by accident; I had been under the impression that it was a collection of stories and had no merit as a stand-alone book. Yet this is touted as “Astrid Lindgren’s Lost Masterpiece,” which led me to research further.
Illustrator Ingrid Vang Nyman brings Pippi to life in this translation by Tiina Nuunally. These were originally published in a Swedish magazine called Humpty Dumpty during the late 1950s, about a decade after the Pippi novels were published. Whether this should count as a stand-alone book or merely a different edition of Pippi stories comes down to one’s opinion.
I found the comic-book format distracting from the stories, but some of the stories were fun to revisit.
The most interesting nugget came in the form of a different translation of Pippi’s name: Pippilotta Victualia Windowshade Curlymind Ephraimsdaughter Longstocking.
